Enabling QinetiQ to drive sustainability across their supply chain
How we’re helping QinetiQ improve their ESG scores through Sustainability
Analysis.
Who are QinetiQ?
QinetiQ is a leading global defence technology company with a focus on research and development backed by engineering and scientific expertise. They manage and operate large-scale testing and evaluation capabilities for air, land, sea, and target systems, constantly evolving and changing to keep pace with potential threat scenarios. The UK branch of QinetiQ is one of the top defence companies in the UK.
Improving their ESG and sustainability credentials are fundamental corporate goals and inform day-to-day activities. As a leading company within the defence sector, QinetiQ supports ESG targets across their supply chain to help drive the sector’s NetZero ambitions.
What was their challenge?
Obtaining an accurate picture of their sustainability strengths and
weaknesses.
Gathering and interpreting reliable ESG data across a large and complex supplier base.
Identifying activities that deliver the most positive impact across the supply chain.
Sustainability Analysis presents QinetiQ with verified ESG scores as a
snapshot of their own standing and highlights areas for improvement across their supply chain.
Sustainability Analysis shows QinetiQ where their suppliers rank in relation to
each other within each Environmental, Social and Governance area.
Not only does this mean QinetiQ can see where their top performers are, but the level of detail also allows them to drill down and support key suppliers to improve their scores over time.
It’s this trend of constant improvement covering many different areas that makes the tool so useful for QinetiQ in practical
terms.
The data-derived information from Sustainability Analysis allows QinetiQ to pinpoint supplier activities that will yield the best results over tasks that might ‘feel right’ but be less impactful.
“Tracking how our suppliers are improving year on year tells us whether our collective activities are culminating in the change we need to see.”

How QinetiQ was able to benefit
Ability to assign measurable outcomes and tangible actions to corporate level goals around NetZero and sustainability.
Enables them to focus on activities that make the most positive
difference.
Allows them to pinpoint specific supplier areas for improvement and work with those suppliers to improve their scores.
As one of the strategic defence partners within the UK, QinetiQ are keen to drive from the front to meet their sustainability targets.
The JOSCAR community is an ideal place to share their science-backed expertise and best practice to help other organisations overcome similar challenges. This, in turn, will help lift the entire sector and help win the race to NetZero.
“The sustainability challenges facing us are global, so it makes sense that it will ultimately take a global community to overcome these challenges. We are more likely to make fast and lasting change if we work together and JOSCAR communities are the perfect environment to facilitate those discussions.”
Hannah Cowley, Group Responsible Procurement Lead, QinetiQ
Sustainability Analysis has given QinetiQ an accurate and evolving view of their own ESG scores and those of their suppliers, highlighting the most important areas for lasting and impactful change across their supply chain.
By focusing on areas for real improvement, backed by verified data, almost half of QinetiQ suppliers (49.55%) have increased their overall ESG score since March.
“Making better choices to support sustainability is an ongoing process. We must be sure that our activities around ESG are having a real impact, and Sustainability Analysis tells us that they are.”
